Almost a thousand years after its earliest surviving fabric was built, St Thomas remains a place of Christian worship and one of the Isle of Sheppey’s most remarkable historic buildings.
The medieval dates above are necessarily approximate; Historic England dates the earliest surviving fabric to the late 11th or early 12th century, the screen to about 1350–75 and the chest to about 1375.
Work within the church uncovered evidence suggesting that some of its fabric could pre-date the Norman rebuilding.
