Our 2024 Annual Report and Accounts have been published, see the 10 highlights of the report below. To read the full report visit www.allsaintseastchurch.org/AnnualReport

  1. Fifth Year Without a Vicar
The parish remains in interregnum for a fifth year, with no vicar on the Isle of Sheppey. Services and responsibilities have been maintained by lay members including Susan Hopper, Yvette Gutheil, and Joseph Fowler.

  2. Strong Community Engagement
Events like the Christmas Tree Festival, Flower Festival, and regular Coffee Mornings at All Saints brought the community together, raising funds and morale despite challenges.

  3. Financial Stability Achieved
The parish reported a £1.3k surplus and maintained £41k in unrestricted reserves, far exceeding the £7k target. Gift Aid registration and increased online/offline donations contributed to this success.

  4. Growth in Charitable Activities and Donations
Income from life events and souvenir sales rose, along with a £3k grant for a new outdoor sign. Online giving increased by nearly £1k, and envelope giving by £900.

  5. Steady Worship Attendance
All Saints saw a stable congregation of 10–15 weekly, with a mix of traditional and lay-led services. A monthly Praise and Worship format was introduced and well received.

  6. High-Profile Christmas Services
Services at both churches were well attended. The Carol Service was broadcast by BRFM, reaching a wider audience. St Thomas welcomed 127 people and two dogs for its Christmas Eve candlelit service.

  7. Life Events Remained Active
The parish held 5 weddings, 10 baptisms, and 15 funerals in 2024. Demand remains, but clergy shortages are causing delays, particularly for baptisms.

  8. Fundraising Success Despite Challenges
The Flower Festival at St Thomas raised £1,451 despite poor weather. The Christmas Tree Festival at All Saints raised £550 and involved local councils and schools.

  9. Safeguarding Compliance Maintained
The PCC confirmed full compliance with safeguarding responsibilities under the Safeguarding and Clergy Discipline Measure 2016.

  10. Focus on Long-Term Building Plans
A quinquennial inspection of All Saints was conducted; one at St Thomas is due next year. Planned works include monument repairs and clock restoration, with grant funding being pursued.
